luxembourgDoctoral Candidate for the EDRESGOV Project (M/F)

The New Governance of Educational Research: Comparing Trajectories, Turns and Transformations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and Belgium

Full-time, 40 hrs/week
Fixed term contract: 3 years
Student and employee status

The successful candidate will be based in the Institute of Education and Society (History, Theory and Sociology of Education) and  will, through research leading to the completion of a doctoral thesis, make a significant contribution to the EDRESGOV project, a three-year study of the impact of research policy on educational research since the early 1990s, comparing the UK, Germany, Norway and Belgium. The project is funded by a grant from the University of Luxembourg and will be led by Prof Dr Gert Biesta and Prof Dr Justin Powell. The successful candidate will be part of a small, international research team and will contribute to literature research in education, field research (including interviews with stakeholders), and writing for presentation and publication. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in (comparative) education policy research and an affinity with one or more approaches in educational research.

Your Role

  • Conducting research in the EDRESGOV project and, though this, completing a doctoral thesis;
  • Contribute to desk-based research (research literature review; policy documents review)
  • Conduct field work (interviews of stakeholders in education research and education policy)
  • Contribute to the analysis of document and interview data
  • Contribute to writing for presentation and publication
  • Contribute to conference presentation and presentation for the wider public
  • Establish and maintain networks with a range of interested parties, stakeholders and researchers in Europe

Your Profile

  • A good Master’s degree in Education or a cognate area;
  • Relevant demonstrable experience with policy research, and with relevant data-collection and data-analysis strategies and techniques;
  • Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and additional proficiency in at least one of the languages of the case studies of the EDRESGOV project (German, Norwegian, Flemish, French)

Postdoctoral Researcher for the EDRESGOV Project

Your Profile

  • A (very) good Master’s degree and Doctorate in Education or a cognate area;
  • Demonstrated research experience in the field of education and/or science policy
  • Demonstrated experience with data-collection and analysis of documents
  • Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and additional proficiency in at least one of the languages of the case studies of the EDRESGOV project (German, Norwegian, Flemish, French)
